Head of the Department of Viral and Cellular Genetics at the Institute of Molecular genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The scientific activity at present and during the whole career has been focused on retroviruses, avian leukosis and sarcoma virus, human immunodeficiency virus, and human endogenous virus HERVWE1 (syncytin-1). The main concerns are epigenetics/latency, entry and receptors, integration, and host innate immunity. Jiří Hejnar solved the FP6 project Xenome (2006-2010) and Praemium Academiae (2019-2024).
